GSM Stories from the Mongolian Steppe

The Waltz of Faith through the book of Acts:

Holding on dearly to the one leading the steps takes a lot of trust, a synchronized step and a very tight grip. As Paul and his team of disciple makers are pushing into the unknown, their waltz of faith must have appeared to them a blind spinning backward jig and jolt through a myriad of potential disasters. Yet they believed there was in fact a heavenly orchestrator of it all. The obstacles were God’s signals to alter direction and the points of pain and desperation gave way to celebrations of God’s victorious sovereignty and stunning creativity. This is the Waltz of the Faith life! As I lay my face before my Heavenly Father seeking how 'The Good Shepherd' would have us advance in Mongolia, He responds, “By faith and not by sight.”

Nomin

New GSM Director:

Nomin Tsedensodnom  will be our Director of Operations for GSM’s representative office in Mongolia. Many of you remember Nomin as our GSM Mongolian representative in 2014. She spoke at Geneva School of Boerne and shared her perspective on Christianity in Mongolian at the GSM fundraiser in April 2014. As we work towards three strategic efforts in 2016, Nomin is God’s answer to our prayers for help guiding GSM work during my rotations out of Mongolia.

Bright Start Partners with Sherry Taylor

Sunday School Teacher Certification:

Three Bright Start ladies have been involved in children's outreach and Sunday School Teacher training in Mongolia for  several years. We are partnering to design a certification program for Mongolian church Sunday school teachers beginning 2016. They are Sansarmaa, Odnoo and Ilieche (missionary from Brazil).

We were abruptly booted from our office:

The building management decided to build a Burger King and gave us five days to exit the building. So, GSM has moved its office into my apartment. It is a little crowded but it’s working. It will save GSM monthly in rent, utilities, internet, etc. until we are through a planning phase and ready to open up shop again.

Sunday School Teacher Training:

Sherry and Terry Taylor spent last week in Ulaanbaatar. We visited many Sunday school programs and talked with a number of Christian leaders. Sherry’s Sunday School teacher two-day workshop and two-day Training Trainers Seminar kicked off our 2016 effort for Sunday School Teacher certification. We limited the workshop to fifty participants and closed registration days before the event because of the overwhelming response. This effort has hit an important need of the church in Mongolia, praise God. It was a great success.

Freedom for Christian Education:

We met with the only Christian Mongolian Parliament member recently. We had a good one-hour conversation and prayer towards freedom for Christian education in Mongolia. (Right now parents cannot legally provide their children with a Christian education.) He is scheduling a meeting for us with the Minister of Education through whom we hope to find potential paths for Christian education. This may come in the form of a private school with special freedoms. It may take the form of home school which is also illegal right now. Other options include a church-run school or a Christian teacher training center/school. I met briefly with the regional director of World Vision who is interested in partnering with us on educational projects for our evangelistic, Christian, and child-oriented Christian education focus. Please join us in praying God would open doors for us to advance Christian education in Mongolia.

Adopt a Christian Young Lady from a "Stan" Country:

Bibi with the Beckett Family

Meet Bibi (means Mother in Persian). She grew up in a large strong Muslim family and suffered multiple daily seizures. She did not attend school until age twelve. She met an undercover missionary in her country and accepted Christ. After she prayed her seizures decrease to once a week. The missionary encouraged her to attend university in Mongolia where she could grow in her faith. At a university heavily populated with Christian faculty she was baptized and has had only one seizure in the year since, praise God. Her extended family has discovered she is Christian. She is afraid that if she returns home her older brothers will find out she is Christian and will kill her. Yet, she has such a strong desire to share Christ with her mother who has been sick. Bibi's sponsor to Mongolia and to university is struggling financially and she needs help. She worked teaching English much of the summer in Mongolia. As is often the case with illegal help, the company did not pay her for her work. If you are interested in adopting Bibi as a financial and prayer supporter please contact David@gsmmongolia.com. I believe $100 a month is what she needs. She has approved this blog request on her behalf.
