GSM Stories from the Mongolian Steppe

We are coming up on the first anniversary of GSM’s first fundraiser last April 1st. What an amazing time it has been. Within ten days of that fundraiser you, our partners, had given or pledged sixty thousand dollars and this initial investment propelled the Beckett family towards Mongolia. And as GSM seeks to follow Christ in Mongolia it is a beautiful death to our ideas and a resurrection to his purposes. We are small, but our mission is great. I hope that through this blog I might share the rich return of your investment in GSM’s ministry in Mongolia.

GSM’s ministry model and mission in Mongolia is Christian community development. The young professionals that zealously share our passion and our ministry give their gifts, talents, education, experience and skills through GSM to Christian community leaders who struggle with feeling alone, under-supported and lacking in the business of community mission. Our priorities are those of the Mongolian community we serve and our purposes are those of Christ.

Our Mongolian retreat “The Crossing” has been delayed until 2016.

To give you a better idea of what we do I have shared this picture of two Kasak Christian ladies who are creating an NGO in Mongolia to support the first Kasak Christian radio program here. Kasaks are a predominantly Muslim tribe stretching from Mongolia through western China and Uzbekistan to Kasakstan. To my right are Karly and Denar who only last week were assaulted by five muslim men and threatened with death if they continued their ministry. Karly has been expelled from her family and from her community. Denar has come from Kasakstan to assist Karly and will return to her home in June. Amy to the far right of the picture, one of our GSM team, is helping guide them through the Mongolian government registration, labor permit, and tax permit process. We pray for Karly regularly through her frustrations and her fears as we encourage her through many tears. As our ministry to these community leaders grows, so your investment becomes that much more richly returned.
